In September 2025, The Centre for the Less Good Idea opened a new exhibition in Dresden, A Resonance Room for People and Puppets.
Running until 28 June 2026, the exhibition in the Puppet Theater Collection in Kraftwerk Mitte forms part of the festival William Kentridge: Listen to the Echo, taking place in Dresden and Essen in Germany.
Curated by Bronwyn Lace and Kathi Loch and Supported by Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (SKD), the exhibition draws on the Puppet Theatre Collection’s astonishing archive, pairing it with work by both William Kentridge and artists connected to The Centre to reflect on, among other things, notions of death, mythology, the archive, and the procession as a metaphor for community and continuity.
Kicking off the exhibition and festival on 5 September was Foot Power, an artistic and interactive public procession through the historic city centre.
With the participation of students from the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, the Banda Comunale, and Singasylum - The Choir for All, Dresden's Old Town became the stage for singing, dancing, and shadow puppetry. The procession stopped at well-known locations such as Brühl's Terrace, the Procession of Princes, the Royal Palace, and the Terrassenufer.
Starting in September 2025, the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden and the Museum Folkwang in Essen are dedicating an extensive exhibition project to the internationally acclaimed artist William Kentridge to mark his 70th birthday. The Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden will be presenting Kentridge’s work in several locations at the same time, including the Kupferstich-Kabinett, the Albertinum, and the Puppentheatersammlung.
