Woven with Brown Thread is an anthology of poetry from The Khala Series | 100 Poem Project supported by The Centre for the Less Good Idea, and edited by the poet and storyteller Upile Chisala.
A curated anthology of new poetry and prose by 25 black women and non-binary persons, Woven with Brown Thread features writing by newcomers and seasoned writers alike, with the intention of projecting and platforming those who have not had the opportunity to publish their work.
Following an open call by Chisala in 2020, over 500 submissions were received. Selected poets took part in individual virtual mentorship sessions with Chisala, workshopping their poetry and prose, unpacking their processes, and discussing the nature of publishing as independent writers. After struggling to find a publisher for the project, Chisala approached The Centre for the Less Good Idea to collaborate on the development and publication of Woven with Brown Thread.
In addition to the publication of the anthology, many of the poems from Woven with Brown Thread were used as points of creative provocation in both Season 8 of The Centre, and the SO Academy’s Thinking in Cardboard mentorship with Sabine Theunissen.
Woven with Brown Thread is available via Amazon and in hardcopy at The Centre For the Less Good Idea.
