CALLING JOHANNESBURG-BASED ACTORS, DIRECTORS, SCULPTORS AND PERFORMANCE ARTISTS.
SO | The Academy for the Less Good Idea invites actors, directors, sculptors and performance artists to apply for a three-day mentorship exploration, with William Kentridge, of the possibilities of objects on stage. The mentorship takes place from 27 to 29 July at The Centre for the Less Good Idea, Maboneng, Johannesburg.
In this mentorship, we will investigate the relation between the object, what the actor can do with it, and what the object demands.
We will be exploring: inadvertent masks; the anxious object; costume as character; sounds predictable and inappropriate; the speed of an object on stage and its plea for stillness; the miniature and the gigantic; the grammar of the object; and the object as heroine.
Six Johannesburg-based applicants will be selected via this Open Call to participate in the mentorship. A panel made up of Kentridge, members of the SO Academy and members of the Centre for the Less Good Idea will select the final applicants. Only applicants who are available from 10h00 to 17h00 on each day of the mentorship should apply.
