Taking place 24 - 28 April 2019
Programmes starting at 6:30 and 8pm daily
Nhlanhla Mahlangu is a vocalist, composer, theatre-maker, dancer, educator and graduate in the theory and practice of Dance-teaching at Moving into Dance, Mophatong.
Born in Thokoza in the 70s, Mahlangu draws on the soundscapes of his childhood – struggle songs, church hymns, and the ongoing conflicts between the ANC, IFP, and The ‘Third Force’ of the 1990s – as the material for much of his work. Having first joined The Centre for the Less Good Idea as a collaborator for Season 1 and a curator for Season 2, Mahlangu returns with a multi-disciplinary offering for The Centre’s 5th Season.
For Season 5 Mahlangu positions himself as an actor to be directed and written for – a vessel for performance of any kind. This has resulted in his collaboration on a 360 VR film with digital artist Janus Fouché as well as composing a new 11-minute epic in the form of an opera in collaboration with William Kentridge.
