The full performances from The Centre’s week-long residency at Fondation Cartier in Paris are now available to read and view on our website.

Led by Bronwyn Lace as part of the Centre Outside the Centre programme, The Centre’s residency at Fondation Cartier was an experiment and saw artists devising and workshopping during the days, and performing in the evenings. It was an intensive, collaborative, and generative week and it is in this context, that these works have been made.

COLLATION 2 | SOUNDING PICTURES: LIVE SCORES TO SHORT SILENT FILMS

The second iteration of our COLLATION programme will focus on short, silent films.

Save the date! From 28 October to 2 November 2024, The Centre hosts Sounding Pictures: Live Score to Short Silent Films, the second iteration of our COLLATION programme, which focuses on the medium of Silent Films.

Curated by The Centre’s Impresario, Neo Muyanga, this programme follows on from COLLATION 1 | Visual Radio Plays, and interrogates what happens when we look at a silent film collectively and collaboratively, responding with live, improvisational sound, performance and text.

Join us at The Centre this weekend for HOW | Showing the Making with Penny Siopis on Friday 27 September, and In Conversation with Penny Siopis and Milisuthando Bongela-Davis on Saturday 28 September.

Pursuing the overarching themes of materiality, memory, narrative, the archival and the autobiographical, these two events will carry a collective focus on how we make stories using history, the body and the self as material.

OCTOBER 2024 | THE OPEN MOMENT | BETWEEN THE WALL AND THE SIDES

On Saturday 26 October, The Centre hosts an Open Moment featuring writer, visual artist and anthropologist Dana Walrath from the US, and filmmaker and educator Dylan Valley, producer Antoinette Engel, musician Bongiwe Lusizi, from South Africa.

The Open Moment will showcase their work-in-progress film project between the wall and the sides.

Following an incubation period at The Centre, this Open Moment will take the shape of an open studio-style engagement that, after a short presentation by the artists, invites the audience to step into the disparate parts of the project — VR, animation, music, and visual art — and interact with the material and contents of the open studio.
